Delhi is usually known for its delicious food. Whether it is ‘Chhole Bhature’ or ‘Kebabs’, there has never been a shortfall in Delhiites’ appetite for a delicious dish. But, with the growing age of technological advancement, a great business venture has emerged from it. Since many decades, there have been businesses flourishing across the streets of Delhi like famous Kebabs of Karim’s, Chhole Bhature of Sitaram, Parathas of Parathe Wali Gali and many more. A big transformation has recently been witnessed as newly emerging food businesses in India are blooming. They have associated their ‘service providing platforms’ with the digitized network and thereby, enhancing a wider outreach to the general public.
With the growing trend towards technological advancement and favourable policies for start-ups, food entrepreneurs have also taken a new approach in their dealings with businesses. These are known as the “Food-Tech Startups”. These food businesses in India focus upon the easy availability of their food products and reaching out to the larger groups of consumers via tools of advanced technology. In earlier times, people were unaware of the cuisines available at their nearby places. But, newly launched mobile applications such as Zomato and Food Panda, etc. have paved the way for easy accessibility to the various restaurant, cuisines, and other food hubs through search engines which also facilitates menu and approx. pricing for two or more people, etc. offered by them.

It has now become evident to us that domestic vendors manage to use these engines to a certain extent. A newly opened restaurant called “Dawaat-e-Chaman”, also known as DC’s situated in Daryaganj, has broadened its outreach to the masses by effectively utilizing the search engines such as Zomato, Food Panda and social media platform, i.e. Facebook, etc. The newly opened ventures have optimized the use of their resources effectively, and to some extent, they have managed to gain better results only by using technology efficiently.
Food businesses in India like Zomato, Food Panda, Swiggy and TinyOwl, etc. are amongst those start-ups that have revolutionized the industry in India, but there are certain unredressed issues that are yet to be resolved promptly. Toothsome food in Delhi is not only concentrated on expensive cuisines, but it has a wider scope that includes several food stalls, street food places that do not have sufficient technological connectivity. Places like Karim’s or Sitaram, who have been serving delicious food from generations, still haven’t taken a steady hold on advancing their operations through technology. Many food businesses in India have yet to obtain an FSSAI License to get their business legal verification.
The focus of the food businesses in India that have hidden potential must be inclusive of the idea of balancing taste and technology in their businesses. Secondly, another issue arises with respect to funding. Recently, due to lack of funds, many such start-ups had put their operations on hold, such as Ealto, Fresh Menu and several others, which did not have sufficient funds to sustain their operations. With the birth of Startup India Policy, such issues can be diligently dealt easily by providing them with adequate investment to sustain their holdings in the market.
The rise in technological advancement has revolutionized the e-commerce industry and thereby, resulting in its introduction in the sector of real estate and taxi services, respectively. Now, the sole focus is required to be made on the booming sector of food in metropolitan cities in India.
Though there are several loopholes which have also recently affected the operations of Zomato and other food businesses in India, the advancements are being made on a regular basis along with technological awareness which would achieve expected results in the food market. But, the taste of Delhiites will always be at the pinnacle of their preferences even though they consider technology as an easy medium to reach out food start-ups.
